PeoplePeople on LinkedIn

Lots of former PeoplePeople (People that have worked at PeopleSoft) have been joining LinkedIn over the last few months – my count of connections that list themselves as currently at PeopleSoft is 5900+. I have also been noticing that there have been quite a few that have joined in the last month that actually list thier place of work as Oracle – so I suspect the actual number is higher still.

I have been using LinkedIn for over a year now and have some tips for those who are new to the service. I think it is a great way to understand your professional network and keep in touch with people as they change jobs or positions. Unfortunately the current version of LinkedIn has a rather cryptic navigation to get to your email account information. So follow these steps to add another email address (the links below will only work if you are logged on to LinkedIn):

Go to LinkedIn home
Select on “Account” in the top nav bar
Select the Email link (it is gray on the left hand navigation)

Now you can select which email address will appear for people that are connected to you (as well as notifications that will be sent when requests or actions items come up). You can also add additional email addresses here and this will trigger a confirmation email to be sent to the new account. I would suggest adding a personal account (like gmail, hotmail or yahoo) for maximum flexibility.

I am going to write up some additional tips in a day or two.
