Urban Campfire

Back when we used to have a house in the country we would make a campfire pretty much every weekend. It was fun to sit by the open flame under the stars, even if the smoke was always blowing in our faces.

Anna was asking if we could have a campfire recently, and after initial reluctance, we decided to oblige. It wasn't quite the same, but it was still fun. Who says you can live well in the 'burbs?

I especially like the worried look on Nahla's (the pug) face. But also note the bucket of brown water: safety first!

  1. Hi David,

I remember times like these too, I also lived in the country and we would have little camp fires often, and stay up late at night and just talk and enjoy each other company. I have great memories of my neighbors, they
used would store up their brush from their ranch and create a burn pile, it would be huge.. well it seemed huge
to me 🙂 everything is huge when you are 10 🙂 Anyways, once a month they would light this fire and invite
me over to have marshmellows and hot cocoa (in the cold months).. Even one year we made a hobo stew..
where everyone that was invite brought something to put into the stew, and then we would cook it in a cast
iron pot over this huge fire.. I remember I brought potatoes 🙂

    Ahh the memories.. 🙂

By the way, I really enjoy your writing, keep it up 🙂 I read your gen-x entry on Aram’s facebook page..
    great stuff!

    -Steve
