Latest Readings

Been reading a bunch of books lately, finding that each skews my views in a different direction. I am sure it will amount to some tremendous inspiration, but it may take a few years or a few thousand books. Here is a list of the latest:

Good to Great: Why Some Companies Make the Leap… and Others Don’t by Jim Collins

The Age of Spiritual Machines: When Computers Exceed Human Intelligence by Ray Kurzweil

The Cluetrain Manifesto: The End of Business as Usual by Christopher Locke, Rick Levine, Doc Searls, David Weinberger

Primal Leadership: Realizing the Power of Emotional Intelligence by Daniel Goleman, Annie McKee, Richard E. Boyatzis

Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson

All great books so far. I will comment on each in a future post.

We recently started renting an apartment near Caleb’s school so that we can avoid the daily (one hour each way) drive during the week. We stay at the apartment M-F and head out to the country for the weekend. The apartment is small but works fine as a place to crash during the week. It is great to be able to walk Caleb to school (it is less than 3 blocks away) and have access all that Portland has to offer during the week.

Since the place is empty over the weekends, we expect family and friends to crash there every now and then. We eventually want to buy a small home near the school, and that will be a good place for people to visit during the summer (when we will stay out in the country).

Having two “homes” is an interesting experiment. Not sure if it will work perfectly yet, but willing to give it a try.
